At DrinkFox, we recognise that privacy of your personal information is important. This policy details information on what types of personal data we receive and collect when you use and visit drinkfox.com, and how we safeguard your information. We never sell your personal information to third parties.
It is not permitted for individuals below the legal drinking age to use this website, and as such, we do not knowingly collect data of such persons. If you are below the legal drinking age in your country of residence, please exit this website immediately.
As with most other websites, we store information on server-based log files, which include your IP address, Internet service provider (ISP), the browser you used to visit our site (such as Chrome or Firefox), the time you visited our site and which pages you visited throughout our site.
This data is retained on our servers for a limited period of time, and then permanently deleted after the retention period. The current retention period is one calendar month. Should the retention period change in the future then this document will be updated accordingly.
When a tool is used on our website, i.e. a BAC, unit or spend calculation, we collect anonymous statistics relating to the data input. This is limited to gender, age, alcohol consumed, BAC levels at the point of calculation, country code, region and time of entry. This data cannot be tracked back to an individual and is only used for aggregate summary statistics which we display on the website.
When branded drinks are selected via our tools, we will also update aggregated usage statistics – for example how many times a drink is selected – so that we can gauge which drinks are more popular and display relevant results in our search.
For stored reports, which are saved to user accounts, all data viewable on the reports page is stored for later retrieval. This data can be completely removed at any time by logging into your account and selecting the delete option.
All information given to us via account registration, and selectable user preferences, is stored by us on our servers so that we can retrieve these details when a user logs in to their account. Passwords are never stored in plain text format on our servers. All passwords are stored in an encrypted format for increased security.
A cookie is a small data file that is stored on your device when you visit websites (such as mobile, desktop or tablet devices) which holds certain information about the website you are visiting, i.e. personal preferences or settings.
As a general principle DrinkFox only use cookies to enhance user experience. The cookies that are directly set by us are stated below.
Cookie | Purpose |
---|---|
consent | This cookie controls the consent settings of our visitors in terms of which cookies can be stored on a device. The following options are stored;
For EU, UK and Californian users – a pop-up consent banner will be activated when the site is first visited to record the consent selections before activating the webpage. No non-necessary cookies will be set for these regions. For all visitors, you can select the "Manage Cookies" button at the bottom of each page to change these choices at any time. |
gbl-g, gbl-a & gbl-w | For some of our tools, declaring your gender, age and weight is required. These individual cookies remember these values so that in future the user does not need to re-input. By de-selecting "Preferences" via the "Manage Cookies" option, these cookies will be removed. |
redirect | On occasions, for example if login is required to access a page, we store the requesting URL temporarily so that we can automatically redirect the user. This cookie is classed as necessary. |
tool-session-uid | When you visit a tool on this website, a unique identifier is assigned. This is so that if a page is viewed twice, we only use the information once. This cookie is classed as necessary. |
bac-report | This cookie is sometimes used to remember details submitted in a BAC calculation so that we can generate a report. These cookies are automatically deleted once the report has been created and is classed as necessary. |
bac-reload | The reload cookie is used to store session data when processing a BAC calculation, ensuring that when a page is refreshed, the details are reloaded. The purpose of this cookie is to avoid having to re-input data. This feature can be disabled by clicking on the checkbox provided in the calculator itself. |
The cookies described above are known as "First Party Cookies" because they are set and controlled by DrinkFox. Other cookies that are set and controlled by websites other than DrinkFox are known as "Third Party Cookies". There are two types of third party cookies set when visiting DrinkFox, advertising cookies (via Google Adsense) and analytical cookies (via Google Analytics).
DrinkFox has no direct control over the usage of any cookies set by third party websites. To find out further information on how cookies are used by the third party companies mentioned below, please visit their respective privacy and cookie policies (for ease of use, links have been provided in the table below).
Some of these third party services may use technology (such as cookies and web beacons) which will also send information including your IP address, your ISP and the browser you used to visit our site. This is generally used for geo-targeting purposes (showing localised adverts, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads to someone who frequents cooking sites).
To comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which came into effect on 25th May 2018, we have disabled all "Personalised ads" for users visiting from the European Economic Area (EEA).
